Maggie (played by Eithne Browne) and Gordon (Played by Tony Timberlake) meet in 1971 and have been dancing to the sounds of Cliff Richard, Chairmen of the Board, and Jackson 5 ever since. Now in their sixties, and still very much in love, they’ve been finishing each other’s songs all their marriage.

Frances Poet is very much someone who has shown a great talent in dramatizing illnesses. Previously writing Fibres (2019), a play all about a shipyard worker and his wife living with asbestosis, and Still (2020), a play that included a woman with chronic pain. Maggie May (Released 2022) continues this trend and speaks to us all about dementia, very much from Frances’ heart.

The show is a fascinating and educational tale about dementia, taking a look at the effects that it can have on your daily life. The play was partially written with the Influence of Frances Poet’s own Mother, who was affected by dementia in her later life and all of the characters do a great job in showing the impact that Dementia can have on the subject and those around them.

‘Maggie May’ very much ends on the mystery of things to come, leaving us with the truth of the matter, that Alzheimer’s never really has a resolution. But it does end on the positive note, showing that friends and family should not simply give up on you. Timberlake does a great job portraying this in the Gordon character, showing a real loving relationship between Gordon and Maggie.

I enjoyed the night and it very much a pulled at my heart. I have already recommending it to a few of my friends, some of whom family’s are affected by dementia.

But be quick as the last performance will be on Saturday 28th May at 7.30pm
