Professional snooker player and seven time World Championship finalist Mark King A.K.A The Romford Battler visited Derham House Care Home in Upminster this week.

Mr King who is aware of the home through friendship with some of the staff, had heard about the fantastic work that the team have been doing throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Visiting on Tuesday 15th, Mr King came armed with boxes of chocolates to thank the staff for their dedication along with signed photos for his fans amongst the team. Mr King was aware that Derham House has a small number of residents who do not have any family and for these people he also bought Christmas presents.

Many of the residents were overwhelmed at Mark’s kindness and could not thank him enough. Due to the current Covid restrictions Mark could not enter Derham House to meet the residents, but instead used the homes beautifully appointed designated Covid-secure visiting suite to greet those residents who were on the other side of the safety screen.

Speaking afterwards Mark said that he was very impressed with the attractive home and the level of care provided to residents. Crina Lee, the General Manager of Derham House, said “Mark was full of generosity and has really created a buzz in the home. He has also offered to come back once the Covid restrictions have been lifted to play snooker with the residents and lead some lessons.”

Lastly, Mr King was kind enough to record a message of support for the hard working team at Derham House which really lifted morale and was perfectly timed for Christmas.
