I was excited to hear that Dick Whittington was this year’s panto at The Queen’s Theatre and lucky to be invited along with my girls who are now 8 & 11.

The night was a great night out for the family and was another display of the amazing musical talent at The Queen’s Theatre. But it was also a great comedy, with a lot of the classic one-liners and a return to some of the classic scenes that always leave us laughing, ‘I’ll have to sing it again then’. It also contains a lot of audience participation, so get ready to shout, ‘Oh no, he didn’t, Oh yes, he did’.

  • We were excited to see Dick Whittington played by Michaii Dantes; he did a great job of taking on the key role and brought it to new modern heights on his guitar.
  • Dominic Gee-Burch was great as Sherrie, and he gave us a lot of Dame classics.
  • Priscille Grace was certainly purrrfect as she played Meowly. She took on the character of the cat everywhere she went, dancing over the stage and meowing wherever she went.
  • We enjoyed Cherry Bakewell (played by Sorrel Jordan); she was great on stage with an amazing voice but was also great on the drums.
  • Laura Sillett was great as the evil Verminia. She had everyone in the audience booing every time she walked in.

I especially enjoyed Elliot Mackenzie when he came onto the stage as Elvis. I couldn’t watch those scenes, as they had me falling to the floor laughing.

It was a great family night out. I asked the panto expert about this, my eldest daughter (now 11):

‘In my point of view, I really enjoyed the humour and how it was not just really kiddy and really made for little children, it had my kind of humour in it. I especially enjoyed the music and how the actors at The Queen’s Theatre often do the music themselves. It goes to show that you don’t need a big cast to do a great show’

While my 8 year old daughter replied;
‘It was the best, I just want to see it again, they should make a movie!!!’
