‘Happy Birthday Sunita’ is a UK-wide performance that will include Windsor, Leeds and Peterborough and I was so proud to be invited to their Queen’s Theatre performance.

As the show begins, it appears that everything will be straightforward, but it quickly becomes clear that nothing is as it appears, and there is a lot of unsettled business in the family. The show is very funny and had both me and my daughter laughing all the way through.

The cast is made up of acclaimed Indian film and TV star Divya Seth Shah (Jab We Met, English Vinglish), Bhawna Bhawsar (The Undeclared War, Eastenders), Devesh Kishore (Last Night, Casualty), Rameet Rauli (Little English, Find Me In Paris) and Keiron Crook (Violet, Coronation Street). Written by Hollyoaks star Harvey Virdi and directed by Pravesh Kumar MBE, founder and artistic director of Rifco Theatre Company, (Britain’s Got Bhangra, The Deranged Marriage).

The entire night is really entertaining, and I recommend seeing it solely for that, but there is also plenty to relate to in the context of a family. I was pleased to bring my daughter, and after the performance, I spoke with her about the whole story of a girl and her family. She agreed with me that there is certainly a lot to relate to in that side of the tale; even though everyone seems to be around you, it’s easy to feel like the odd one out.

It’s a great night out and is possibly my favorite comedy at The Queen’s Theatre so far. It’s only on at The Queen’s Theatre between Tue 23 May – Sat 27 May 2023 before transferring elsewhere
