It’s 2023 and The Queen’s Theatre has started the year with the cream of the crop. Written by internationally bestselling author Ian Rankin, ‘Rebus: A Game Called Malice’ is a modern murder mystery that will leave you guessing until the very end and we’ll certainly try not to ruin it for you

It was amazing to experience Rankin’s latest global premiere being performed in our local theatre. The show certainly has a taste of Rankin’s bestselling books, with all the thrill of a murder mystery. But Rankin also surprised me with the jokes in the conversations between characters which left the audience in fits of laughter.

The talent on the night was certainly not only about Ian Rankin but their we’re also some top actors and actresses this included:

  • John Michie – Who is best known as for Taggart, Coronation Street and Holby – He was brilliant as Inspector John Rebus and is certainly the key figure as the inspector
  • Emily Joyce – I was really excited to see her after remembering her performances on the BBC in My Hero and she didn’t let me down as Stephanie Jeffries
  • Emma Noakes – Best Known for Call The Midwife and leading roles with the RSC. She does a great job of portraying the character of Candida Jones
  • Billy Hartman – Previously appearing on Emmerdale, and he was great as Jack Fleming
  • Forbes Masson – Best known for his roles in The High Life (BBC Two). He keeps you guessing through the whole night in his Paul Godwin role
  • Rebecca Charles – Best known for The Dresser (Theatre Royal Bath). She played Harriet Godwin and both she and Forbes Masson had great skills in portraying emotions and certainly left you guessing

I loved the night and although the show is only 80mins long (not including the break) the night holds so many emotions, much excitement and energy that it felt a lot longer.

Don’t let anyone spoil the story for you. Head down to The Queen’s Theatre as soon as possible to work out the murderer, closing date 25th February
