The countdown to Christmas in Havering will begin with the festive lights being switched on in Market Place, Romford this November.

The big switch-on event, taking place from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Thursday 17 November, will kick-off the seasonal revelry in Havering.

Time 107.5FM, based in Romford, will be hosting the event, which is sponsored by Romford Bid and supported by Razzmatazz Theatre Schools.

Headlining the entertainment is East 17, one of the biggest UK pop bands of the 90s, with a line-up featuring original member Terry Coldwell and former Artful Dodger collaborator Robbie Craig.

They will be performing a set that includes ‘Stay Another Day’ – their Christmas number one from 1994, along with many other hits from their eighteen top-twenty singles and four top-ten albums.

Several other performers will also be gracing the stage, including Razzmatazz Theatre School, the 90s Show, Harold Hill vocalist Miss Morgon and Rise Park swing-singer Mark Walker.

Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch will also be treating audiences to a preview of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ their Christmas pantomime for this year.

The lights will be switched on at 6.30pm following a firework finale.

Councillor Ray Morgon, the Leader of Havering Council, said:

“The festive lights switch-on at Romford Market Place is such a highlight in the Havering calendar and is when Christmas gets fully underway in the borough.

“I hope everyone comes along to enjoy the entertainment and fireworks as we count down to Christmas in Havering.

“My thanks to Romford BID, Razzmatazz Theatre Schools and Time 107.5 FM for supporting this year’s festivities.”

The lights switch-on in Market Place, Romford is the first of a number of switch-ons and events taking place across the borough in the run-up to Christmas.
