South Essex train operator c2c is once again running a Remembrance Day art competition with its local adopted primary schools to commemorate those lost in the world wars.
This year the adopted schools have been given the opportunity to design a poster to honour Remembrance Day, with the winning design displayed across the c2c network. The winners will also work with c2c to design a special planter for their local station.
Schools were invited to dust off their art supplies last week, with the competition running until Tuesday 1 November. With Remembrance Day this year being held on Sunday 13 November, the winning design will be displayed at stations across the route in time for this.
This competition further highlights c2c’s commitment to local communities, part of which recently sought community project ideas in a public consultation with customers and local stakeholders.
With a special bonus prize of designing a planter for their local station, the winning school will have a special reminder at their local station, giving them a sense of pride and commitment all year round, with the planter helping c2c improve the sustainability and appearance of their adopted station.
c2c’s Managing Director, Rob Mullen, said: “This competition has a great message; to celebrate those who fought so bravely for this country and to also encourage our local schools to get involved with their adopted stations in a really creative way. We have heard that some of the children have started work on their posters already – we are really excited to see the designs they come up with.”
The winning design will be chosen and announced in the early November with the winning poster to be displayed at stations from November 7.
On the weekend of Remembrance Day, Saturday 12 November and Sunday 13 November, c2c will again be offering free travel for all serving military personnel and veterans travelling to the service of remembrance at the Cenotaph.
For those outside of London, there will be free return travel to attend a Service of Remembrance offered on Sunday 13 November.
Volunteers from The British Legion will be selling poppies at c2c stations across the route from 29th October to 12th November.
